Low key photography is done in a dark room with a black back ground and one light reflecting on the other side of a subject, low key lighting causes a halo effect and a reflector gives a soft effect. Sometimes a spot light behind the subject is used too, in low key photography you have to be careful to get both eyes in the picture other wise dead eye will occur.
