Extra Part of the Art History Project :)

I decided for my extra part of the project that I wanted to do something with black and white photography, I looked a few different photographers and artists and found Man Rays work, I'd always loved the image of the girls back for ages so I decided to do something with that. Earlier in my project I discussed about a lady who copied famous paintings and photographs with her barbies, and I decided that I wanted to have a go at this myself.
After borrowing my neighbours barbies and picking three images that I wanted to copy, I set up a black background and a soft box and my camera and started to dress the barbies up to match the photos.
here are the images that I came up with, mine on the left then Man Rays original on the right :)

Book Art Project.

I could not find any specific artists who focus on doing images of artists or book art, but I did find these images that I used for inspiration for my project.

After looking at lots of images with book art with butterflies, I decided I wanted to use this as a starting point for my book art project.

After looking at this image I decided that I wanted to at least make a few of the butterflies from cut outs of a book as I think it looks really lovely.

I decided I wanted to start cutting out my butterflies, so I looked at shapes of butterflies on the internet such as these, and my cat even helped. :')

I next found a book that I was able to work with and it was okay to cut out off. I bent the spine of the book so that it would stay open when laid out.

After deciding the shape of butterfly I wanted to cut out, I tarred out some pages of the book and cut quite a few out.

I decided that I wanted the butterflies to slowly get coloured so I decided to water dome some acrylic paint and colour different ones.

Book Project

For the book project I have decided to do images of old houses and try and show the beauty in decay.
Here are my images. :)

Here is the order I want my images to be in

For the first image I chose to use a picture of a window because it's like at first you'd go look into the house through the windows. I then used the image of the rubber duck because it was showing that the empty abandoned house once had life in it, and the dirt around the duck is slowly attacking him. Next I chose to use an image of some stairs, like they're leading you through the book like you're walking up them to explore more. Next I put an image of one of the bathroom doors, then an image of the bathroom sink, because you'd go past the door into the back room, then a picture of the ceiling like you'd looked up and around the room to explore it. I next put an image of a corridor like you're looking out the bathroom door again looking at places you could explore in the house, then an image of some peeling wall paper like you stop and look at the walls of the house and you walk around. I next put another image of some stairs, so they continue to lead you around the book and house. Next I put an image showing the attic of the house which contained an empty trunk and some sinks, then Down to another picture of some stairs again then stopping to look at an image of the cracked wall. Next you see an image of a lightswitch, then you look up to see what light the light switch is connected too and you see the cracked ceiling. The next image is of a butterfly trapped in some spider webs, reminding you that there used to be life in the house. Next another image of some stairs leading you to look at the patterns and decoration on the walls and how it's slowly cracking away, next an image of one of the windows as the day began to leave and the sun started to shine through the window. and Lastly an image of one of the rooms being used for a modern use, storing tiers, pulling the old abandoned house forward in time for a modern use.

Evaluation
When I first started thinking and planning this project, finding a place that would let me into to take pictures seemed so hard, but my dad mananged to help me find a place that his friend used the bottom level as a tire shop and the upstairs was left as it was. I then also managed to get permission for the other place after quite a few emails and phone calls. After having a bit of a stress with the fact my flash gun stopped working and that quite alot of the rooms were a bit dark, I think I managed to get quite a few shots that I am happy with. It was such a beautiful house that I had some lovely memories in so I tried my hardest to capture the beauty in it, and for it not to be just seen as some house. I tried to capture images of full rooms and stairs but also take some detailed shots of little details like light switches. Because the rooms and places were sometimes decorated so differently like the flower wall paper and the blue walls, I added an old photo effect on them all to draw the photos together. I think this worked as I think they all have the same feel to them. over all I'm really happy with these images but I wish I could have photographed some of the darker rooms as some of them were absolutely beautiful.
